Alakaʻi’s radio career began on February 5, 1985, at KPOA Radio, Hawaiʻi’s first Hawaiian FM. As a beloved Morning Drive Personality, her “Brush Teeth, Wash Face and Comb Hair” routine became a daily favorite. As Program Director, she championed Hawaiian language music, filling the airwaves with the sound of her culture. Known for “directing traffic” as an emcee, she has guided countless Hawaiian events on Maui with warmth and skill. Now Program Director at KAPA FM, Alakaʻi continues to share her manaʻo and aloha, inspiring and connecting audiences through music, community, and her enduring love for Hawaiʻi’s traditions.

Kumu Hula Māpuana Kekahuna Aarona

Francine Mapuana Kekahuna Aarona, affectionately known as “Aunty Mopsy,” is a distinguished Kumu Hula from the esteemed lineage of Kumu Hula Maʻiki Aiu Lake, from whom she ʻūniki in 1974. Deeply devoted to preserving Hawaiian culture, she has been a guiding force in the hula community for decades. As a respected judge for Hula O Nā Keiki, she shares her vast knowledge and unwavering respect for tradition. Rooted in the profound teachings of her beloved kumu, her work continues to inspire, educate, and nurture new generations, ensuring hula’s artistry, discipline, and cultural integrity endure for years to come.

Kumu Hula Moses Kahoʻokele Crabbe

Ke aloha ‘āina ‘aʻohe lua e like ai aʻo Maui nō e ka ‘oi! E ola! Moses Kahoʻokele Crabbe is the esteemed Kumu Hula of Hālauolaokalani, founded in 1999 in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. A graduate of Hālau Nā Kamalei, Papa ʻAʻaliʻi, under the mentorship of Robert Uluwehi Cazimero, he carries the hula lineage of Auntie Maiki Aiu Lake and Mrs. Lokalia Montgomery. With over twenty-five years of teaching, Kahoʻokele blends deep cultural knowledge with a keen eye for detail, ensuring performances are judged with respect and integrity. His commitment to education, cultural advocacy, and nurturing future generations solidifies his place in Hawaiʻi’s cultural landscape.

Kumu Hula Māpuana de Silva

Māpuana de Silva, ʻūniki under Maʻiki Aiu Lake in 1975, founded Hālau Mōhala ʻIlima in 1976, renowned for excellence in classical hula and Hawaiian language arts. She co-founded Hikaʻalani, dedicated to restoring ʻāina and cultural identity, and Kailua Kau a Hoʻoilo, advocating for iwi kūpuna protection. A former CPAC Chair, she has led Hawaiʻi’s delegation to six Pacific Festivals of the Arts since 2000 and partnered with UH-JABSOM on hula and health research since 2008. Honored for her contributions to performing arts, Hawaiian language, and culture, she and her husband Kīhei were inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame in 2022.

Kumu Hula Leimomi Ho

Leimomi Ho, Kumu Hula of Kealiʻikaʻapunihonua Keʻena Aʻo Hula, founded her hālau in 1984 to honor the legacy of her mother, Victoria Kealiʻikaʻapunihonua Iʻi Rodrigues. She has trained generations in the traditions of chant and hula, earning accolades at events such as the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, Hula ʻOni E, and Kauaʻi Mokihana Festival. A devoted educator, she shares her ʻike and aloha with students across Hawaiʻi, the continental U.S., and Japan. As a respected judge and cultural ambassador, her lifelong dedication to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian culture continues to inspire and uplift communities near and far.

Kumu Hula Nāpua Silva

Nāpua Silva, esteemed Kumu Hula, educator, and cultural ambassador, is celebrated for her dedication to Hawaiian traditions. Founder of Hālau Nā Lei Kaumaka o Uka in 1996, she has guided countless students in the art of hula. In 2021, she led her first ʻūniki rites, elevating three to Kumu Hula and seven to hoʻopaʻa, ensuring her hālau’s legacy endures. Her reach extends internationally, with schools in Osaka, Tokyo, and Mexico, where she personally teaches each month. As a judge for Hula O Nā Keiki, she brings exceptional expertise, cultural depth, and a lifelong commitment to nurturing the next generation of practitioners.
