OUTRIGGER updates

As you prepare for your upcoming trip, please note Oahu, Hawaii Island (Big Island) and Kauai islands are not impacted by wildfire disasters and are safe for travel.

As of 9/8/23, the State of Hawaii has an emergency proclamation in place that all non-essential travel to Maui is strongly discouraged until October 8th. OUTRIGGER does have availability at our neighbor island resorts during this time.

Kani Ka PIla Grille 14th Anniversary Back to all stories

Celebrating 14 years of Hawaiian Vibes at Kani Ka Pila Grille

Listening to the happy, enchanting sounds of ukulele and slack-key guitar are a must for any Waikiki vacay, and Kani Ka Pila Grille is the place to do it.

    Backyard Jam Sessions

Named after the famous backyard jam sessions of legendary Cyril Pahinui and family—masters of Hawaiian slack-key guitar—Kani Ka Pila Grille at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach is Honolulu's home to the best in live Hawaiian music. "Kanikapila" means "let's play music" (a.k.a. impromptu jam sesh), and that's what this locals-love spot does each night. A favorite for both travelers and kamaaina (longtime residents), it's one of the coolest spots to take in Hawaiian culture.

    Talent, Shows

The musicians who take the stage are the who's who of Hawaiian music, from winners of the Na Hoku Hanohano Award (a.k.a. the Hawaiian GRAMMYs) like Sean Na'auao to artists like "master of ki ho'olu (slack key guitar) and minister of Aloha," Kawika Kahiapo. But the thing that really makes it unique is that it feels like you're hanging out with these celeb musicians for an intimate performance in your backyard.

Kani Ka Pila just celebrated its 14th anniversary of bringing authentic aloha vibes to Waikiki, including its annual Hawaii's Got Talent show. And as part of Outrigger Reef Waikiki's newly refreshed look and feel, the venue gives way to an even more perfect backdrop for Hawaii talent—and backyard-cool vibes.

    Music Meets al Fresco

Plus, there's excellent food and drink on the menu, too. Enjoy poolside dining over island-inspired cuisine and locally-sourced cocktails—we love the Ahi & Avocado Poke and the Huli Huli Chicken (a local favorite!)—while listening to live music under the stars. Check out al fresco shows every night of the week, including aforementioned Sean Na'auao on Mondays, Kawika Kahiapo on Thursdays, and GRAMMY nominee (and island mainstay for over two decades!) Ho'okena on Saturdays.

You can also check out the ultimate beach party live music jams at sister Outrigger-fave Duke's Waikiki's legendary Duke's on Sunday with Henry Kapono or explore more family-focused culture fun.

Shows 6-9 p.m. nightly. Find the full Kani Ka Pila lineup here, and book for special weekly rates at Outrigger Reef and more now!
